Book Review of Dark Parties by Sara Grant

I went to the library asking for books like Divergent and a librarian recommended that I read Dark Parties by Sara Grant. She told me that she has been waiting for a follow up book, but after reading this one I'm not sure there will be a sequel.

Dark Parties is a dystopian book about a society that lives inside a large glass pyramid. No one can leave and no one can disobey the rules. The main character in the book is Neva and her grandmother has disappeared along with many other people.

Review of Dark Parties:
When I first started the book, I began to question the librarian recommending this book to me. If you read chapter 1, you'll know why! However, the story line was quite unique and the danger present in the book made it quite a suspenseful read. Overall I am glad that I read the book, even though the end was a bit of a let down.

Rating of Dark Parties: 4/10

Would I Read It Again? No and I wouldn't rush out to read a sequel either unless I was bored.

Would I Buy It? Definitely not.

Book Review of I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

I Am Number Four is a book by Pittacus Lore in which a boy from another planet must struggle for survival from a race of enemy aliens that destroyed his home planet by hiding on earth. A spell cast by a member of his home planet has previously protected him and nine other young men and women by only allowing the aliens to kill the young aliens in a particular order. Each time a young alien is killed, a tattoo appears on the ankles of the survivors that lets them know how much time they have.

The book starts out in a very suspenseful manner, with the alien enemies discovering a young boy and killing the alien who is protecting him. This boy was alien number 3 and the rest of the story follows alien 4 as he tries to blend in with the high school earthlings and not draw attention to himself. If the aliens find him he will likely die.

Review of I Am Number Four: Overall the book was pretty fast-paced and enjoyable. The main character was likeable and the storyline was unique - I like how we were uncovering information about his home planet and powers as he did. I definitely recommend this book if you like the Percy Jackson series.

Rating of I Am Number Four: 5/10

Would I Read It Again? No, but I can't wait to read the next book which focuses on a new teenage alien and I would like to see the movie.

Would I Buy It? No. I borrowed it from the library, read it quickly and am ready to take it back.

TV Show Review of Game of Thrones

A good friend of mine has HBO and this has given me an opportunity to watch the TV show Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones follows a Lord and his family and is set in medieval times. Most of it is quite realistic, but there are some hints of magic that keep you on the edge of your seat.

Review of Game of Thrones:
This show is not bad, but it is not non-stop exciting either and there is not much comedy. If you like shows set in the Medieval period, you will most likely enjoy this series.

Pros: There is a good story line with quite a few unexpected twists. The battle scenes are pretty cool.

Cons: There are not enough battle scenes. There are a lot of characters so it can be kind of hard to follow at times. Sometimes it can be very predictable.

Game of Thrones is not for kids because there is a lot of language, sex, violence and nudity so you will have to be careful when you watch it or avoid the show if these type of things bother you.

My overall analysis is that I could live without this show, but I wouldn't refuse to watch it if it is on either.

Rating of Game of Thrones: 6/10

Would I Watch It Again? I would not rewatch old episodes, but I would watch new ones if I was bored.

Would I Buy Game of Thrones? No

This show is good to watch once, but I would not go out and buy it unless you've seen the series and love it.

Movie Review of Julie and Julia

My best friend has been dying to see the movie Julie & Julia because she likes cooking. I do not like cooking so I was not looking forward to seeing it, but I'm open to pretty much anything and my Mom had taped it on her DVR so we went ahead and watched it.

Review of Julie and Julia:
As I first watched the movie I braced myself for the worst. I could tell already that this was going to be a long, slow movie without a lot of excitement in it. It was interesting learning about Julia Child, but not so interesting that I jumped for joy.

Once I found out that the other main character, Julie, was a beginning blogger the movie finally had gotten my true attention. I liked hearing her thoughts about starting her own blog and laughed at the fact that she wrote at first without any response, not knowing if someone was reading it or not. I could really relate to that and the part where she got all excited because she got her first reader comment on the blog and it turned out to just be her mother. It sounded exactly like my early blogging life.

A little while into the movie I realized that my Mom had fallen asleep so although I didn't ask her for sure, she didn't seem to excited about Julie and Julia. It was around this time that the film had lost my interest again so I slowly waded through the remainder of movie by playing with the dogs. The ending was kind of depressing too.

Overall, I felt that the movie was interesting. I'm glad I watched it, but would not be enthusiastic about encouraging others to buy it.

My friend said she enjoyed the movie, but would not want to buy it.

Rating of Julie and Julia: 5/10

Would I Watch It Again? No

Would I Buy This Movie? No

See this movie if you like Julia Child or are interested in cooking but do not buy it before you see it.

Rating Of

Rating Of is a blog that is dedicated to holding ratings and reviews of the products I try out from movies to video games to books. This blog is meant to be a helpful guide for my readers, but I'd prefer it if readers gave me their own reviews and ratings as well.

I originally came up with the idea as a way to declutter my house (sounds crazy right?). I want to try to watch all the movies I own, read all the books and play all the video games and give them a rating to see which ones I could bear to get rid of. Perhaps by leaving a record of them online I can at least keep them in some form (even if it is just a digital picture and a memory of the item).

I've decided to expand my Rating Of categories to include all movies I see, products I try and shows that I watch. Hopefully you'll enjoy the same things I do and we'll become fast friends! Click any of the links below to get my latest reviews.
